Organisers of NY Park Ramayana applauded

I write to applaud the organisers of the Ramayana in the Park held at the Cheddi Jagan Square in Richmond Hill in late August. They provided a week of spirituality for NY-based Guyanese to seek the kingdom of God over seven nights. It also brought together people of different beliefs working towards spiritual upliftment. Arya Samajaists and Sanatanists collaborated on this first of a kind venture and it was well received bringing out hundreds of people who are patrons of temples of both faiths.

The organizers announced that some 30 pandits graced the eight sessions and there were not disagreements among the pandits. People donated generously to make it a success with the organizers running a surplus.

The event was organized under the auspices of the Arya Spiritual Leader Pandit Ramlall and the Sanatanist Leader Pandit Rishi Misir. It was done under the banner of The Hindu Pandits Parishad and Federation of Hindu Mandirs.

In addition to discourses, there were children skits one marking the banishment of Shri Ram from the kingdom of Ayodha and another on his return. Latchmee Singh, formerly of East Bank Demerara, an accomplished classical dancer in NY, did an outstanding choreography of the skits. There were also beautiful bhajans by prominent singers including Trinidadian Esther John who just released her new CD of bhajans. She has a golden voice.

I salute the organizers for conceiving the idea of Ramayana in the Park. It was long overdue coming a year after the bhajan concert in the park (Richmond Hill 2008) that brought together the late Prakash Gossai, Pandit Rajen and several other stalwarts who mesmerized the crowd of thousands. And the organizers deserve praises for a well put together program that has won the hearts and minds of so many Guyanese.

The organizers expressed their deep appreciation to those who contributed towards the success of the event.
