JAMAICAN dance hall artiste, Mavado, also known as `Gully God’, has been cleared for performances here later this month and is expected to conform to local social norms, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said yesterday.
He confirmed that Mavado had been banned because of his offensive lyrics and the resort to identifying with unsavoury anti-social elements in the Guyanese community.
But Luncheon told his weekly post-Cabinet media briefing that considering the likely impact the ban would have had on the artiste in terms of being provided with an opportunity to mend his ways, he has been advised that he has been cleared to perform here as scheduled.
“I want to believe that had to be taken in conjunction with some obligations entered into between the singer, promoter and the authorities”, he said.
Luncheon indicated that the decision was also based on the government’s move to promote more entertainment in Guyana.
