DEORAM Singh, 49, of Lot 339 Ganges Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison on charges of assault and threatening behaviour. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, the defendant pleaded not guilty to both offences, particulars of which said, last September 4, he unlawfully assaulted his brother-in-law, Raymond Ishmael, so as to cause him actual bodily harm and threatened him, causing a breach of the peace. Defence Counsel Vic Puran conceded that Singh used some words which upset the virtual complainant and that resulted in a scuffle between them. But Ishmael told the Court Singh used a gun to issue the threat and cuffed him on his face twice, making him lose a tooth.
The cases will be called, again, today.
