ANSA McAl, through its Smalta Brand extension, yesterday presented members of the senior squash team, who will depart Guyana this weekend for the senior Caribbean championships, with a cheque for $906 902 towards expenses that the team will incur on their campaign for supremacy.
The Caribbean Senior Championships is scheduled to be hosted in the Cayman Islands August 17-22 and the donation is aimed at assisting with airfare, uniforms and entrance fees for the squad.
This is the second such sponsorship that Ansa McAl has doled out to the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) in support of participation in events abroad, as Smalta also sponsored the junior team for last month’s junior championships.
According to Managing Director of Ansa McAl, Beverly Harper, her entity shows much favour to the GSA because of their outstanding record and performances and therefore did not hesitate to grant them the sponsorship.
Harper stressed that the GSA has a 20-year history in defending Guyana’s honour and she believes that they have “done brilliantly, in particular the Junior Squash team ….” According to the Managing Director this second sponsorship is Ansa McAl’s way of recognising the junior team’s achievements at this year’s Junior Championships where they retained their Boys’ and Girls’ Team titles as well as the Overall Team title.
It was disclosed that players from the junior pool are an integral part of this year’s senior squad as Victoria and Alexander Arjoon, Keisha and Kayla Jeffrey, Oliver Kear-Downes and Raphael DeGroot, who are all junior players, have been named as part of the senior team.
Ansa McAl is contining its drive to promote healthy living and excellence in all sections of society. On August 7 the organisation presented a cheque worth $164 000 towards helping a group of youngsters to attend a karate championship in St Lucia.
Representatives of Ansa McAl also revealed that it has an ongoing promotion dubbed ‘Smalta Kids’ which concludes on September 12 and its Cutest Baby Contest that ends September 14.
