DCC congratulates Griffith

THE president and executives of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) extended congratulations to Trevon Griffith on his selection to the 20-man West Indies Under-19 squad to prepare for the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand next year. “This 18-year-old left-handed opening batsman has exceeded expectations in the just concluded West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) TCL Under-19 tournament played in Jamaica, by scoring over 400 runs.

“Griffith is following in the footsteps of Roger Harper, Mark Harper, Keith Semple, Garvin Nedd, Rayon Thomas and Vishal Arjune, who were themselves West Indies Under-19 players and selectees, and is poised to be a household name in Guyana and West Indies cricket.

“He is known for his counterattacking, attractive and flamboyant style of batting, which would stand him in good stead in his future cricketing endeavours. We wish him every success!”

“DCC, under the presidency of Alfred Mentore improved its profile on the field of cricket where they have won most of the local tournaments and dominated selections nationally and regionally.

“It is in this vein, we take this opportunity to congratulate Travis Dowlin on his recent exploits on the West Indies senior team in all forms of the game, with special congratulations on his century in only his second one-day international (ODI).

“We at DCC and all of Guyana look forward to his continuous selection at this highest level and wish him well in his journey to be the best that he can be.

“Lastly, we hope to see much more of the emerging Christopher Barnwell who was shortlisted by the WICB for the Champion’s Trophy in South Africa.

“We are happy as a club to serve Guyana and West Indies cricket and urge these young ambassadors to aspire in the footsteps of our previous club greats and legends in  Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs, Roy Fredericks and Roger Harper.

“We therefore must do whatever we can to preserve the memory of our legends and develop the talents of our young cricketers so that they may continue to walk in the paths of our beloved and cherished heroes of the past, so that we may be able to celebrate their legacy today, tomorrow and in the years to come.

“We humbly wish other clubs the same success we are currently enjoying so that Guyana and West Indies cricket can be strong.”
