Two charged with forging CXC certificates

MAGISTRATE Priya Beharry yesterday released two men on bail when they appeared in court separately charged with forging and uttering two Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) certificates.

Gavin Stuart, of 29 Middle Street, Buxton, and Delroy James, of 56 Clonbrook Housing Scheme, both East Coast Demerara addresses, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Stuart and James, both 20, were represented by attorney-at-law Mr. Rexford Jackson.

It is alleged that, between last February 1 and 28, with intent to defraud, they forged two CXC certificates.

Particulars of the other charge said, during the same period, they uttered to Glennis Joseph the same certificate.

Jackson said both defendants were employed by the Guyana Police Force as cadet officers when the fraud allegation was unearthed.

The lawyer asked the court to consider that the young men were pursuing work.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, did not object to the bail application, and informed the court that Stuart and James were on training when the certificates were discovered to be false.

The defendants were each released on $150,000 bail and will make another court appearance on September 24.
