Monedderlust make clean sweep of BFA’s U-11 and 13 tournaments

A HAT-TRICK of goals from young Keeron Arthur along with a brace each for Oziah Mars and Selwyn Jack guided Monedderlust Football Club to a nine-nil drubbing over Rosignol United, on their way to winning the first place trophy, championship medals and a football for each member of the team in the Berbice Football Association’s Youth Development Week Under-11 tournament.

The two other goals were scored by Brian Thom and Kofi Campbell, as they ensured their team dominated their opponents on either side of the field.

Monedderlust were again victorious in the Under-13 tournament with goals being contributed by Keeron Arthur, supported by an Akimo Watts double, as they defeated N/A United three-nil.

N/A United, who had earlier defeated Rosignol United by 3-1 with goals from Shakeel Grant (22nd), Mark Wrong (25th) and Steffon Boucher (30th) respectively, to  emerge second while Rosignol United, who got their lone goal from Shane Gangoo in the 17th minute, occupied third place.

Keeron Arthur and Akimo Watts were awarded for being the goalscorer with the most goals and most valuable player respectively.

Mr Hilbert Foster, who is chief executive officer (CEO) and secretary of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTYSC) (the donors of the first and second place trophies for the Under-11 tournament) and was also influential in the securing of prizes such as educational packs and hygiene kits from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, was on hand to make some brief remarks.

In his remarks Foster commended both the president and secretary of the BFA for their earnest contributions in helping to keep the young people of our communities meaningfully occupied in our sport and out of trouble that is so prevalent everywhere.

He also advised the youths to always say no to drugs, stay in school and obtain an education, always be God-fearing and have faith in God and at the same time to remain disciplined at all times, since discipline is the key to success in any sport.  He further urged them to be respectful to their officials, coaches and referees.

The tournaments were played under the auspices of Banks DIH Coca Cola brand with other sponsors such as Mahaicony Rice, Gilgeous First Choice Pawn Shop and Guysuco Blairmont Estate, contributing meaningfully (Calvin Roberts).
