Minibus driver charged with breaching peace

ANDO Manifold, 32, who appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, charged with breaching the peace, was put on $7,000 bail until September 1.

The defendant, of Lot 84 Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge that said, on July 17, at Croal and Water Streets, Georgetown, he threw away a hat, valued $4,000, belonging to David Gullings, causing a breach of the peace.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, said Manifold and the virtual complainant were at the Route 45 minibus park when they became involved in an argument over $40 and the defendant took off the other man’s headwear and flung it away.

Manifold admitted taking off Gullings’ cap and said it caused other men to laugh at him because his head is bald.

The driver said Gullings, who is a conductor, filled his minibus with passengers and he gave him $60 but the latter claimed he got no cash.
