Repeated burglary/arson attempts on Essequibo resident’s home

IT has been more than 20 times that I had cause to report incidents, including attempted burglaries blatant obstruction of my property and twice Molotov cocktails were thrown on my building by known criminals with the intent of burning it down.

On Tuesday January 15, 2008, occupants of neighbouring premises threatened and endangered the lives of my family. The aforementioned act of harassment was not an isolated incident but part of a pattern of harassment to which me and family have been subjected to by these criminals and their acquaintances without anyone been charged to date. For this reason, I believe that I cannot rely on the local police to rescue me and my family.

Although the police have apparently being doing their job, there seems to be no end to this harassment. Many times I feel compelled to report these matters to the media before I am made to endure an even more harmful fate because I am not getting justice by the police here at Anna Regina. Multiple attempts by these criminals to enter my home at night were foiled each time, since I had installed an alarm system which goes off once an intruder crosses any of my entrances.

These matters were also reported to the police, who arrived promptly to investigate, but no one was identified although all the evidence was pointing to these known criminals. On two occasions I was soundly asleep with my family in my two-storey home both times when I was jolted awake, to crashing noise of bottles. I immediately telephoned the Anna Regina Police Station. Upon the police’s arrival, they observed several pieces of broken bottles and what appeared to be a wick soaked with gasoline and channa on my verandah and my front door. It would appear that these Molotov cocktails were thrown from the northern side, the officers examined the materials and decided that they would take some back to their office to be tested for finger prints.

The next morning detectives arrived to continue investigations into these matters. At that point I requested my wife to check around the yard to see if there was anything suspicious. On both occasions she discovered the same type of bottles similar to that found on my verandah and front door soaked with gasoline next to my fence. This was also brought to the attention of both detectives but no suspect has been taken in custody with all the evidence before the police.
