President supportive of Parliamentary procedures, says CPA Secretary-General

President Bharrat Jagdeo expresses his support for Parliamentary procedures to CPA Secretary General, Dr William F. Shija during a courtesy call at State House.

Dr William F. Shija, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Thursday paid a courtesy call on President Bharrat Jagdeo at State House, where he noted that the President expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the CPA.

“The President informed me of how he supports the Parliamentary procedures and activities and he very much appreciates the work of the CPA,” he added.

The CPA held its 34th Annual Regional Conference of the Caribbean, the Americas and Atlantic Region on July 12-16 in Guyana, and the Secretary-General took the opportunity to brief the President on the functions of the Association.

“I informed him generally how the CPA functions, how we get assistance from our Parliamentary partners in Guyana, as well as other members from this region – the Caribbean, the Atlantic and the Americas,” Dr Shija explained.

He was also thrilled to be in Guyana for the first time, a country with which his fellow Tanzanians are very familiar from the early struggles of developing countries.

He stated that the trip was wonderful and he was really excited to meet the people of Guyana. (GINA)
