A man who tried to make peace between his adopted daughter and her boyfriend during an altercation on Tuesday is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, nursing a stab-wound to the abdomen.
Twenty-nine year old Rawle Persaud, of Samaroo Scheme, La Grange on the West Bank Demerara, stabbed by the male suspect, was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital where he was given emergency treatment and prepared for surgery.
The victim’s reputed wife, Melissa Welch, who accompanied him to hospital, said that the injury was inflicted with an ice-pick. She recalled that around 17:30 h the couple had a misunderstanding which resulted in the young man becoming violent. Welch said her husband intervened and was stabbed, after which the suspect fled the scene.
The distraught woman recalled that the incident happened just hours before her husband’s scheduled departure for the hinterland, where he was going to work at a gold mining camp.
Police are continuing their investigations.
