ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday refused bail for Godfrey Thomas alias ‘Dog Man’ when he appeared in Court on an embezzlement charge.

The remanded prisoner, 43, of Silvertown, Wismar, Linden, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, between July 11 and 13, at Aranka Backdam, Cuyuni River, being a clerk or servant of Latchman Narine, he fraudulently embezzled $100,000 that he received on behalf of his employer.

The defendant admitted receiving the money but said he spent some to pay a hotel bill and buy food because he experienced difficulty in getting to Narine.

Meantime, he met a few friends and bought them some drink before falling asleep and awakened to find the remainder of the cash missing.

The magistrate gave Thomas up to July 23 to decide whether or not he would repay Narine.
