MAGISTRATE Hazel Octave-Hamilton yesterday overruled a Police objection and granted bail to Kenneth Bovell on a possession of narcotic charge.
The defendant, of Lot 208 South Sophia, pleaded not guilty to having seven grammes cannabis (marijuana) on July 10, in Guyhoc, another part of Greater Georgetown.
Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, opposed the grant, on the ground that Bovell is likely to abscond from his trial.
However, after Bovell alleged that he had to go through a terrible beating at the hands of the Police while in custody, including being lashed with a gun behind his head, Magistrate Octave-Hamilton told the Prosecutor he should have solid grounds for such objection.
Bovell was allowed pre-trial freedom on a $25,000 bond until November 13.
