GDF Coast Guard interdicts three vessels

THE Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard, acting on a tip off, last Saturday interdicted three vessels that were moored alongside the Muneshwer’s wharf in Georgetown.

The Joint operation, involving the Guyana Police Force and Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU), occurred at about 16:15 hrs, whereby searches were carried out on the vessels following information that they were involved in arms and ammunition smuggling, the GDF said in a statement.

The searches unearthed one .22 round of ammunition, and two telescopic sights.

The vessels “MV CHAMPAGNE”, “DADDY’s BOY” and “LUCKY LADY II” were detained and escorted to the Coast Guard Headquarter wharf, where further searches are being conducted.

The crews of the vessels were handed over to the Police and are currently assisting in the investigations, the GDF said.
