City bar owner charged with indecently assaulting waitress

EUCLID Da Silva, owner of a car rental and bar at Lot 23 Hadfield Street, Stabroek, Georgetown, has been charged with indecently assaulting a waitress in his employ.

The defendant, 38, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and was refused bail until July 16.

Particulars of the July 5 offence, to which he pleaded not guilty, said it was committed on a 19-year-old at the same address where the defendant operates his businesses.

Attorney-at-law Mr. Euclin Gomes, for Da Silva, said the allegation stems from conditions the latter set for his employees.

The lawyer said the virtual complainant was not performing her duties in a satisfactory manner and the incident complained about occurred in full view of other staff and the public.

But the woman said she worked with Da Silva as a waitress and he called her on her cell phone at midnight, requesting that she meet him at the back of his building.

She said he questioned her about her whereabouts with another employee, who is a bartender and she told Da Silva what she did outside of his workplace was none of his business.

However, she said, at that point, she was about to leave when Da Silva grabbed and put her to sit in his lap.

As she tried to push him away, he held her against a wall and began touching her private parts, the woman alleged.
