Brisport’s seven-wicket haul sends LEIC tumbling
CHRISTIANBURG’S fast bowler Nigel Brisport turned in a fine all-round performance with a hat-trick maiden in a seven-wicket haul, as his side crushed the Linden Electricity Inc. Company (LEIC) to reach the quarter-finals of the Mackenzie Sports Club-organised, Digicel-sponsored Twenty20 tape ball cricket championship which continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground on Thursday.
Using his obvious pace Brisport was the mainspring in the Christianburg attack as LEIC were humiliated for just 16 runs, arguably the lowest ever score recorded in Twenty20 cricket in the town.
Christianburg then completed the formality with an eight-wicket win after they reached 17 for two off three overs.
In fact the LEIC won the toss and elected to bat when they found themselves in early trouble against the fiery pace of Brisport, scrambling four runs after the first six overs with extras having the highest score of 12.
Opening bowler Brisport was the architect, getting a wicket with his first ball of the innings and his casualties included Chris Allicock, Avery Trim, Desmond Spencer, Stephen Tappin, Ivor Dublin, Sherwin Graham and Oswin Skeete.
In the end Brisport had figures of 3-2-4-7, which included Dublin, Trim and Tappin who failed to trouble the score sheet.
The other bowler to take wickets was Hilton Morrison who snatched two wickets for no runs in his only over.
Amelia’s Ward, after they were sent in to bat, made 119-9 off 20 overs with Harvey Darrell making 40 as Michael Ramdehol took three wickets and Sherwin Arokium two wickets for Bad Boys.
Bad Boys in reply scored 70 from 9.5 overs with Darrell coming back to torment their opponents with bowling figures of 4-11 off three overs.
Bad Boys’ Arokium got 12 runs and was the only batsman to reach double figures where extras top-scored with 27.
Bowling for the winning Amelia’s Ward side, Otto Sullivan grabbed two wickets.
In other results, Bayrock defeated Genesis while Old England eliminated Coomacka in the first round.
On Friday night, Mackenzie Sports Club opposed Linmine Secretariat and the other fixture was between West Watooka and Endeavour.
