The police are investigating an armed robbery committed on Albion, Corentyne businessman Ganesh Prettipaul, his wife, a salesgirl and several customers at about 23:10h Friday. According to a Police release, six masked men, five of whom were armed with firearms escaped with G$2.4M; $13,000 in US currency, three cellular phones valued at $11,500 and a quantity of personal jewellery.
Investigations reveal that Prettipaul and his watchman were standing outside of the businessman’s grocery shop and liquor restaurant when they were confronted by the six men who held them at gunpoint and took them into the building.
Three of the men remained in the business section of the building where a salesgirl and two male customers were also held up, while the other three went to the dwelling area where they held up Shamdardai Prettipaul, the businessman’s wife.
The men used their firearms to beat the woman about her face and body before tying her up, after which they ransacked the home and found the local and foreign currency.
The three cellular phones along with the jewellery were taken away from the salesgirl and two customers, after which the men escaped.
The businessman’s wife sought medical attention at the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was treated and sent away.
