Pumps for sewerage system expected third quarter

The Kaieteur News article published on July 6th regarding the procurement of sewerage pumps for Georgetown revolves around fabrication and is a perversion of all ethical codes in the media fraternity.

It is my ardent belief that this article is deliberately taking statements about the overall sewerage rehabilitation programme out of context and is attempting to manipulate information to arrive at conclusions about matters, which were not specifically discussed at the Guyana Water Inc recent media brief.

The Guyana Water Inc refutes the biased information perpetuated in this article which suggests that the sewerage pumps are expected at the end of the year, and categorically state that the sewerage pumps will arrive during the third quarter of 2009. Installation is slated to commence immediately upon their arrival as was discussed at the press briefing when Mr. Gafoor explained the schedule of the overall rehabilitation works planned for the sewerage system in Georgetown.

For clarity, the Director (Ag.) of CIP explained that the installation of the pumps would be done concurrently with the rehabilitation of the stations and not at the completion of the structural rehabilitation. As such, the “quotation” in the 10th paragraph of the Kaieteur News article is therefore inconsistent with Mr. Gafoor’s statement and we are thus insisting that the article be withdrawn.

It is worrying that the Kaieteur News continues to seek to distort the efforts of GWI and to create in the public minds, feelings of insecurity and fear. This form of reporting cannot be considered ethical, moral or informative, but serve to dismantle the efforts of the GWI team.
