Linden East tackle Linden West for $100 000 prize money

Students, teachers clash for bragging rights
AFTER rain forced the cancellation of the Linden All Star Basketball Showdown on Monday, the Alleyene’s Retrieve Raiders basketball club will seek to have its one-day East versus West All Star extravaganza tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.

In the feature match of the double-header card, the best of Linden basketball players clash in an East against West match-up for $100 000 with a supporting game involving a Students’ team comprising the top players from the recently held National Schools basketball championship, taking on a Teachers’ Selection from 19:00 h.

The coaches for the two teams have already named their teams for the showdown.

The East side will be coached by Floyd Martindale and Ashton Angel (Jr) and will be led by Steve Neils (Jr).

Other members of that unit are Jason Alonzo, Marvin Hartman, Neil Simon, Omally Sampson, Louis James, Alexander Rose, Kevin Joseph, Akeem Kanhai, and Alister Webster.

Kester Jeffrey and Claude Williams have also announced that their side will be spearheaded by Dwayne ‘Brown Sugar’ Roberts with other players being Ruel McKinnon, Chris Williams, Orlando Glasgow, Anson Durant, Kurleigh Austin, Terrence James, Trevor Profitt, Quincy Jones, Nevin Grenville, Alwyn Wilson and Lawrence DaCosta.

Linden Technical Institute’s Orrin Rise (Jr) who led his team to the National Schools championship title and Mackenzie High School’s Akeem Kanhai, who will also double with the East team, are expected to be among the elite players showing up for the clash with the Teachers’ Selection.

Moneygram is the main sponsor of the nightcap between the East and West teams where there will also be at stake an MVP award.

Former Alleyene’s Retrieve Raiders player/coach Ian Kendall and executive Randy Craig now based in the United States have donated trophies while medals were secured from Corporate Supplies.

Refreshments will be on sale.
