Two Guyanese officiating at CONCACAF Gold Cup in USA

GUYANESE football officials have received appointments at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the 10th version of the Confederation’s premier national team event, which kicked off at the Home Depot Centre on Friday evening with a pair of Group ‘A’ encounters.

Guyana Football Federation (GFF) president Colin Klass is performing duties as Match Commissioner in Group ‘B’ of the competition, which will be staged at Qwest Field, Seattle, RFK Stadium, Washington DC and Gillette Stadium, Boston.

The Match Commissioner is the official representative of the competition’s organiser. Klass, also the Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) 2nd vice-president, has served in a similar capacity in a number of FIFA, CONCACAF and CFU events.

Assistant referee Dion Inniss, will be performing duties in Group ‘A’ of the tournament, which comprises Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Digicel Caribbean Champions Jamaica.

This is the first time since the fourth edition of Gold Cup in 1998 that the tournament has kicked off on the West Coast; the Home Depot Centre is no stranger to the competition, having hosted matches in 2005 and 2007.
