BURGLARY defendant Leon Austin alias ‘Wild Boy’ was one of the men refused bail yesterday after the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Denise Griffith said he has an assault charge pending and is a ‘regular’ around the Courts who gave another name when arrested.
Austin was remanded to prison until July 17 when he pleaded not guilty to the break and enter and larceny charge before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Particulars of the offence said Austin, 45, of Lot 117 Middle Road, La Penitence, during the night of July 1, broke into the dwelling house of Godfrey Caesar and stole two leather belts, a cell phone, cash and other things, all valued $172,000.
The other prisoner on remand, Shawn Smith alias ‘Bruk Up’, 36, faced two counts of simple larceny, which he denied.
The defendant, of Lot 70 Evans Street, Charlestown, also in Georgetown, is alleged to have, between July 2 and 3, stolen a $35,000 bicycle, belonging to Rodwyn Taylor and, on July 3, at Houston Public Road, stolen 24 empty beer bottles, property of Narmatie Persaud.
Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, said Smith was in custody at Ruimveldt Station but committed the offences after being sent on bail.
His case will be called, again, on July 29.
