OVER the past few days, following an incident where a thief was shot by a licensed firearm holder for robbing a woman of her gold chain, there has been much debate in the papers, where writers have been expressing the view that the shooter should be charged.
This is utter nonsense. This is a man that has a record for stealing, he is a thief and during that process he was shot for stealing.
Why should the shooter be charged? Is this what we want our society to become; thieves can roam freely and not be sanctioned for the wrong?
The shooter was not an unlicensed firearm holder, neither was he breaking the law, he was only protecting the victim, which happens to be a woman.
All that has been said in the letter columns was only about the dead man, not one of the writers acknowledged the victim. Have they though about how traumatized she was after the incident and that the robber could have killed her?
No. we haven’t heard about that, all we saw is that these persons are more concerned about the thief than the victim.
We need to step up and be brave. I am not defending anyone, but I am sure that the shooter’s intention was not to kill the man, but was on primarily saving the woman. We should stop with this nonsense.
