The impact of LCDS

IT is with great national pride that I write to commend President Bharrat Jagdeo and others who are credited with the origination of the talked about Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).

A lot of Guyanese are not knowledgeable of the issues of climate change hence; they do not understand what this strategy would mean for this country if implemented. People from the outside world are better aware of the subject of climate change. That is why President’s Jagdeo initiative is widely supported in other countries in the world.

I therefore urge all Guyanese to make educating themselves on LCDS a priority, in order for them to fully understand the theory and make more substantial contributions in supporting the President.

A lot of people might be of the view, that the President is overtly ambitious with the presentation of this scheme to attempt a mission of this magnitude, given that Guyana’s contribution to the initiation of this problem is practically non-existent.

As the President reminded however, Guyana is below sea level, and with the burning effects of climate change, the 2006 flood is just a mild preview of what is to be expected, if nothing is done to address this issue now.

Guyanese should take cognizance of the fact a complex strategy such as this was generated right here in Guyana, by Guyanese and if this scheme is sanctioned in Copenhagen in December it will give Guyana the global recognition it needs to foster development in every aspect of our country.
