Time for citizens to play their part

I have noticed that the Hydro-Meteorological Office has predicted increased rainfall over the next few days as the May/June rainy season commenced.

The Met office has estimated that within the next two to three days Guyana will experience increased rainfall.

Many Guyanese, some who have migrated or lived here could relate to the May/June rainy season.

Although it is the job of the Met office to inform the public and to be prepared for the upcoming inconvenience it is also compulsory that citizens play their part.

The Agriculture Ministry through the NDIA is insuring that all the drainage sluices are functional and pumps are operational. Persons are also working round-the-clock to ensure that the kokers are opened and closed on time.

Mr. Editor I think it is now time for citizens to do their part as it relates to the indiscriminate dumping of garbage on our roadways and canals which will cause a heavy impact on the drainage system and lead to many areas being flooded.

It is time for us to work together as a nation and put aside our differences to ensure we help to maintain our drainage system.

It is not intended for the administration alone to keep up the fight to ensure that the city remains dry but it should be a team effort by all, instead of just sitting back relaxed waiting for disaster to happen and point fingers.

I am encouraging all to come together as a team and do our part as a country.
