Garbage collection in the City halted

The Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown is advising citizens that the two main refuse disposal services contracted by the Council, Puran Brothers and Cevons Waste Management, have withdrawn their services due to $24M owed to them by the Georgetown Municipality.

According to a press release from the Council, the City Treasurer has indicated to the contractors that a portion of the outstanding amount was available for payment. However, the contractors were not happy with the settlement and decided to discontinue their collection schedule.

The release added that a meeting is scheduled today between the Council and the contractors to bring about a resolution to this matter.
