Some speak as if nothing good has happened in Guyana

THERE are some persons who speak as though nothing good has happened to Guyana over the years and we are just a backward nation with no signs of prosperity. Allow me to express my anger at a letter written by Rev. Gideon Cecil that was published in Stabroek News entitled ‘Advanced technology in country of blackouts.’

Rev. Gideon is one of those persons who I would place in that category. In his letter he spoke as though Guyana is static, not a single thing has improved or developed. I think that he needs some spiritual revival.

Before we criticise, we must first learn to appreciate the things that we have and where we are today, compared to some years ago. When I came back in this country I was amazed to see the transformation that occurred. Even though, there are limited resources to do everything that we would want, I think that this government is really making that extra effort to please its citizens and bring the country on par with others that are more endowed than us by creating the infrastructure.

We need to understand that Guyana is a developing country and it bothers me when there are leaders in society who show no support for the changes that are occurring.

Unfortunately this is the nature of some persons, but as a Reverend I want to suggest that he knows better. I wonder what he preaches in church. Society needs to support and encourage the process of nation building.

The frequent blackouts that we are experiencing are not because of bad administration, but it is because GPL is upgrading the power supply, so that we can have a more reliable source of electricity.

The funny thing is though, he is complaining about a few hours of blackout, but can he recall what is was like years ago? How many persons had electricity? These people make demands on government for services, but they are not willing to help make things better. Come on Reverend, God is watching you.
