THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has recognised the contributions of a number of senior World renowned football stalwarts for their collective contributions to the development of the game over the years.

At the CONCACAF Congress last week, held at the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island, Nassau Bahamas, the GFF presented plaques to FIFA president Joseph Sepp Blatter; FIFA vice-president who is also CONCACAF and CFU president Jack Austin Warner; FIFA committee member and CONCACAF general secretary Chuck Blazer, CONCACAF executive member Harold Taylor and FIFA Development Officer Harold Taylor a former CFU general secretary and CONCACAF executive member, Lisle Austin.
GFF president Colin Klass, in brief remarks before the presentation, stated that the awardees collectively have contributed more than 150 years of their lives to football with committed, dedicated and selfless service way beyond the call of duty.
“They have all represented us at every level with great distinction giving all of us every reason to be proud. We at the GFF feel that these persons ought to be recognised at a time when they can appreciate it.”
The local governing body for the World’s greatest sport has in the past recognised the contribution of Ms Pat Modeste, who stands out as one of the longest-serving Personal Assistants to CFU president Warner.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, June 7, CMC – Guyanese fast bowler Gilford Moore grabbed a striking five-wicket haul Saturday that gave UWI a good start to their Barbados Division One championship match against Pickwick.
Playing at their home 3Ws Oval, UWI restricted Pickwick to 165 all out after Moore and pace partner Jason Bennett shared seven wickets.
Lower-order batsmen Jared Gilkes (49) and Tino Best (34) were the chief scorers for Pickwick, as Moore returned splendid figures of five for 19 off 13 overs with six maidens.
Bennett (2-22) and Brian Gooding (2-52) combined for four wickets for UWI, who were 19 without loss in reply at stumps.
Young batting sensation Kraigg Brathwaite was nearing a maiden Division One century for Barbados Youth in their match against Empire at Bank Hall.
The two-time CLICO West Indies Under-15 championship MVP, who has scored more than 30 centuries already in his fledgling career, stroked 92 not out as Barbados Youth closed on 211 for five.
The 17-year-old Brathwaite has so far struck 14 boundaries in his innings.
Meanwhile, West Indies rookie Dale Richards, Martin Nurse and Antonio Mayers made batting headlines for their teams in other games.
Richards smashed 112 off just 93 balls with 13 fours and six sixes in steering Carlton to 252 for nine against LIME, who were 25 for two in reply at stumps.
Left-handed Nurse belted an unbeaten 209 off 159 balls for Wanderers to post 308 for four declared against St Catherine.
Nurse compiled 78 per cent of his runs in boundaries as he lashed 23 fours and 12 sixes.
St Catherine were 62 without loss in reply at the close.
Former Barbados player Mayers scored 123 in the Police total of 227 for seven against Spart
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, June 7, CMC – Barbadian Alcindo Holder and the Guyanese Homchand Pooran smashed hundreds on Saturday for their teams in Trinidad and Tobago’s Premier League.
In stroking 117, Holder placed title-holders Merry Boys in a strong position against Wanderers and Pooran was unbeaten on 117 as Clarke Road secured a massive first innings lead over Central Sports.
At St Mary’s College, Holder and Aneil Kanhai (66) lifted Merry Boys to 280 all out.
Holder, a former West Indies Under-19 player, cracked 14 fours and three sixes in his innings.
National opener William Perkins led Wanderers’ bowling with three for 24 and then provided the backbone of their reply with 80.
Wanderers closed the day on 136 for four, still 144 runs behind and Holder complemented his top-score by claiming two for 42 to give Merry Boys the ascendancy in the game.
Pooran’s undefeated hundred at Presentation College helped propel Clarke Road to 218 for four in response to Moosai Sports Club’s 116 all out.
Guyanese Troy Cornelius (49) top-scored in Central Sports’ small total against Dane Teelucksingh (5-34) and the Vincentian medium pacer Kenroy Peters (3-23).
In other matches, national players Sherwin Ganga (65), Gibran Mohammed (55) and Ravi Rampaul (43 not out) lifted PowerGen to 262 for nine against Queen’s Park CC at Penal, former West Indies opener Suruj Ragoonath hit 100 not out for Comets to score 218 for five declared in reply to Moosai’s 61 all out, and Preysal scored 250 for eight declared against Munroe Road, who were 86 for three in reply.
Chief scorers for Preysal were Shazan Babwah (60), Aaron Alfred (48) and the Guyanese Azeemul Haniff (46
