What was the cause of Ms. Shirley Field-Ridley’s death?

IT is interesting to read the articles that show up in the Letters to the Editor’s column of our daily newspapers. My eyes caught one of them written by Hamilton Green captioned “Nation must demand answers from its Leaders.” It was a well written article by a well known gentleman, the Mayor of Georgetown, delivered on the 43rd anniversary of our nation’s independence.

Mr. Green lamented the fact that, “there is a creeping moral decline insidiously taking hold of society, few inquests are being held while an alarming number of murders remain unsolved.” He then quite emphatically, demanded that the truth and nothing but the truth be told to the people.

Now, Mr. Green for starters we the public would like to know how Ms. Shirley Field-Ridley died or should we say murdered. Ever since that fateful night the public have been asking questions to which we cannot get sensible answers. Should I suggest you have some forensic scientists carry out an autopsy to verify the cause of her death thereby putting closure to the people’s quest for answers? But what am I talking about? She was cremated, yes cremated! This removes all traces of us ever finding out the cause of her death. I rest my case.

He also made mention of the drug baron Roger Khan who, according to his article has been shielded from justice by those in high office; a statement that seems to incriminate the President and other government officials. This statement is an admixture of truth and error tainting the entire missive which makes it a lie. Firstly, Roger Khan was able to wield power because of the then Police Commissioner Felix; the infamous tapes are there as evidence. Khan could not have been more privileged because he was Felix’s home boy. For one to be the licensed holder of a firearm or any such equipment he/she must apply to the police department before permission is granted. A background check is made of the individual making such a request before a licence is issued. My question is how could such a notorious character able to get the necessary clearance needed, to the point where he was able to secure equipment that should only have been reserved for the military? Startling!

So Hammi, next time you write first give us a “green light” on the issues before you make to apportion blame where there is none, Guyanese are not stupid. Your writings remind me of a great editorial written by Sharief Khan on Pavlov’s dog. Sharief please go into your archives and publish that article again.
