RPA gets leave to answer register challenge

JUSTICE Winston Patterson has granted leave to the Rice Producers Association (RPA) to file an affidavit in answer to the application for a nisi order against it.

The Monday grant is in relation to an action, filed by Turhane Doergo and Jinnah Rahman, seeking a writ of prohibition and mandamus, for the RPA to show cause why an edict should not be issued, quashing the list of names constituting nominees for membership of the District Committee in Block X, Crane, West Coast Demerara.

The applicants are also challenging the current register for districts eight, nine and/or all 13 in the RPA.

Doergo and Rahman are being represented by Mr. Saphier Husain and Mrs. Eva Rawana-Scott while Mr. Anil Nandlall is appearing for the RPA in the case that continues on June 14.
