Alpha, GDF seeking GFA/Cellink Plus victories tonight

DEFENDING champions and current points leaders Alpha United and GDF will both be seeking victories this evening when the Georgetown Football Association/Cellink Plus Premier League tournament continues at the Tucville ground with a double-header.

Alpha will be facing GFC in the opening game from 18:00 h, while GDF tackle BK International Western Tigers in the feature match, scheduled for a 20:00 h start.

Both Alpha United and GDF have nine points apiece from three matches, but Alpha United have a better goal difference than GDF.

Alpha to date have scored 18 goals while not conceding any, while the soldiers have scored nine goals in their three matches. They too have not conceded any.

Tonight, GDF will be looking to make light work of their opponents in order to climb to the top of the points table, while the defending champions (Alpha United) will want to maintain their unbeaten streak and maintain the points lead.

To date, Alpha United has so far defeated Tigers by a 6-0 margin, thrashed Flamingo 8-0 and beat Sunburst Camptown by a 4-0 margin, while GDF edged Pele 1-0, beat Fruta Conquerors 2-0 and devoured GFC 6-0.

However, come this evening, Western Tigers will be seeking to change the course of their fortune with an upset win against the powerful army team and they will be looking to strikers Devon Millington and Nedd Fraser with support from midfielders Colin Nelson and Maxwell Pellew.

Their defence will be marshalled by Dillon Fraser and team captain Shermon David with Ron Liverpool performing duties between the uprights.

Also expected to start in the Tigers’ line-up are Jorel Tyrell, Kevin Gordon, Dwayne Daniels and Vashile Cantzlaar.

Of the three matches they have played so far, they only registered one win and that was a 3-0 victory against newcomers Flamingo.

The army who have so far defeated Fruta Conquerors 2-0, GFC 6-0 and Pele 1-0 will most likely respond with the likes of strikers Hubert Benjamin, who has three goals to his credit to date in the competition and Stellon David, midfielders Marlon Benjamin who also has three goals to his credit and Desford Williams and defenders Royan Morrison and Sheik Kamal. Akel Clarke will be on duty between the uprights.

For the opening game, the star-studded Alpha United, with seven of their players being called up for national duty, beginning this weekend, will be spearheaded by national player Shawn Bishop who has five goals to his credit to date, Dwight Peters, Elton Brown, Philbert Moffatt, Howard Lowe, Quincy Madramootoo, Edison Gomes and Kelvin McKenzie, with Ronson Williams on duty between the uprights.

GFC, who have also lost 0-3 to Fruta Conquerors and 2-3 to Pele, will most likely have in their starting XI Peter Parks, Clayton McLeod, Roy Stanton, Gregory Denny, Dellon Cadogan and Rodwell Wellington among others along with Lawrence Fanfair between the uprights.

Premier League action will continue on Sunday at the same venue with another double-header.

In the opening game at 18:00 h, Flamingo will take on Fruta Conquerors, while from 20:00 h, Sunburst Camptown will face Pele.
