ACCP’s approach towards combating crime a positive one

I believe that the 24th Annual General Meeting of the Association of the Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) is a very positive step towards finding solutions to crime in Guyana and the entire Caribbean region at large.

It has been noted that criminal activities within the Caribbean region are of similar nature, hence, a collective effort among the law enforcement officers in the region seemed fitting. This was recognised by President Jagdeo, who said that “we are all in this together, their challenges are our challenges and vice versa.”

This forum brings about a sense of assurance to Caribbean people who are plagued with some heinous criminal acts. I strongly believe that the more emphasis being placed on a particular issue, the more likely we are to find solutions.

I think that this is the best forum to address activities such as drug-trafficking and terrorism, and I am sure that the results of these discussions will help to ensure that our officers are more vigilant and in dealing with criminals.

Out of this we may be able to benefit from better relationships with countries outside of the Caribbean territory.

So as responsible citizens, we need to recognise the importance of this meeting and understand the impact it could have on us as Caribbean people.
