ARNIM Griffith, 22, of Lot 17 West Ruimveldt, was yesterday charged with the murder of Guyana Power & Light (GPL) Chief Security Officer Clifford Peters, who was shot dead while aiding the removal of illegal electricity connections at Lamaha Park, also in Georgetown.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and was remanded to prison until June 5.
Defence Counsel Basil Williams claimed the accused is one of the tragedies of the justice system.
The lawyer said Griffith, with a totally unblemished record and a model for Clairan’s clothing store, was arrested on a robbery under arms charge but put on an identification parade and identified as Peters’ killer.
Williams maintained that the prisoner has an alibi and, eventually, his innocence will make him go free.
However, Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, said when Griffith was held, the murder allegation was put to him.
The Prosecutor said she is not aware of the Police charging the accused with armed robbery and requested three weeks to get advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
