Larceny defendant was seen on camera

– Police
ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle upheld a Police objection yesterday and refused bail to Dwayne Stephenson, who is charged with simple larceny.

The defendant, 40, of Lot 23 George Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to stealing a $240,000 laptop computer, property of Sharmeena Denny, on April 24.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, who objected to the grant of pre-trial freedom for Stephenson, said he was seen on camera removing the laptop from the virtual complainant’s room.

The Prosecutor also said the defendant is not a first offender and it is likely he will commit similar offences if released.

Stephenson was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to another Court for May 15.
