Opposition Leader Robert Corbin has had a successful surgery and is currently under post operative care, the People’s National Congress Reform party said in a release. Corbin was operated on at an institution in Long Island, New York, and his doctors have expressed optimism for his full recovery.

Adding that the party leader is expected to be discharged from the institution shortly, the release stated that the party will continue to update the nation on the progress of Corbin’s recovery.

Corbin was medically evacuated by private aircraft to New York on April 27 after taking ill here.

On his arrival in New York, he was admitted to the Heart Center of St. Francis Hospital were he underwent a series of medical evaluations before being discharged.

It was as a result of one of these tests that Corbin underwent surgery yesterday.

The Opposition Leader’s medical expenses are being met by the Government of Guyana.
