Dancer who fell off stage dies

Thirty-five-year-old Paul Quintin, the dancer who fell off a stage and landed on his neck at the Tavern Night Club last week, succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday.

His sister Janice Quintin, who spoke with this newspaper, said that her brother from New Amsterdam was a craftsman who made beaded chains and other items of craft.

She recalled that last week he travelled to Georgetown to purchase materials for his business, and was returning home on Wednesday night when, as he was approaching the Berbice car park, he was spotted by a man who recognised him as a dancer. She said the man called out to Paul and persuaded him to put off his trip and take a walk to the Tavern Night Club where dancing competitions are held.

She said Paul told her from his hospital bed that, as he was dancing, he fell off the stage and landed on his head.

An MRI scan was ordered by his doctor to ascertain the extent of his injuries. His relatives were required to produce a portion of the $66,500 fee and the hospital would pay the rest to have the scan done at a private hospital.

Meanwhile, he kept crying out for pains, and the following morning he died.
A post mortem is to be performed tomorrow.
