Berbice Spelling B competition winners awarded

RAJIV Woarti, 12, of Sheet Anchor Primary School, emerged winner in the xSpelling B Competitionx hosted by the youth arm of Frank Memorial Congregational Church, in collaboration with A. Ally and Sons General Stores in Berbice.

The contest, staged in New Amsterdam Town Hall earlier this week, attracted 43 pupils from 14 primary schools in New Amsterdam, East and West Canje and East Bank Berbice, who were given 425 words to spell 320 correctly.

Aquiba Reynolds, of All Saints and Hemwattie Rampersaud of Betsy Ground Primary, got the second and third prizes, respectively and they were also awarded trophies and gift certificates, redeemable at Metro Office Supplies.

Proprietor of the sponsoring business, Mr. Fizal Ally said the rivalry, of five-year duration, is in its second year, following an initiative by the religious body to motivate and encourage children to improve their spelling.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of the competitiveness, which has improved when compared to the previous year and promises to be better next year.
