THE Meat and Food Hygiene Section of the Mayor and City Council is calling on citizens to desist from purchasing coconut water that have been placed in recycled bottles.
In a press release, Public Relations Officer, Debra Lewis, says a series of inspections conducted in Georgetown by the health inspectorate revealed that this practice is prevalent around the city markets.
Also, the process involved in pouring coconut water in bottles is very unhygienic and can be hazardous to the health of the citizens.
At a meeting held with coconut vendors, it was agreed that:
1) All coconut stalls should be five feet above the ground.
2) All stalls must be kept very clean and free from refuse.
3) All coconut vendors should be properly uniformed.
Any coconut vendor found in breach of the agreement would be fined or be prohibited from conducting such business in the City.
