Food handlers must have a permit

IN the interest of consumers’ safety, the Food and Drug Department through the National Food Safety and Control Committee, has advised that any person engaged in the preparation, cooking and serving of food must be in possession of a valid food handler’s permit issued by the Regulatory Authority.

A food handler’s permit is issued when an individual has been exposed to the prescribed food hygiene training course, comprising theoretical and practical sessions and on-site evaluations. Permits are valid for one year.

Organisers of take-away lunches, bar-b-cues or ‘fish fry and lime’ events who are located outside Georgetown are advised to visit the environmental Health Officer of their respective Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), while those in the City should visit the Meat and Food Hygiene Division of the Mayor and City
