Jagdeo again stresses…
– Says people keep raising this issue out of fear he might run a third time
GUYANESE Head of State President Bharrat Jagdeo last evening, again, made it pellucidly clear that he is ‘not’ interested in running a third term for the Presidency of Guyana.
Responding to a question at a packed news conference he hosted at the Media Centre for the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Port-of-Spain, on whether he is interested in a third term, President Jagdeo noted that he has made it clear already when at home in Guyana, and the same answer he gave then he gives now: “No. I am not interested in running for the Presidency for a third term.”
The President said he is puzzled why “a number of people” keep asking him the same question over and over, even though he has answered it in the past and made his position clear.
“I have said this over and over…I am not interested. I think (some people) are fearful. I think many of them are fearful that I might want to run a third time…but I am not interested in a third term,” Mr. Jagdeo declared.
The President noted that he has put systems in place to ensure that, referring to the amendment to the Constitution of Guyana limiting any President to a maximum of two terms in office. (Mark Ramotar)
