HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said that Cabinet in its final review of the Fifth Summit of the Americas which opened yesterday in Port of Spain, Trinidad, highlighted the importance of a proper outcome of the activity.
The Cabinet Secretary was speaking at his weekly post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday at the Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown.
?uring the Cabinet meeting the four main areas that were identified in the draft declaration were noted to be earlier identified in other regional and indeed international gatherings,” Dr. Luncheon noted.
Indeed, Cabinet felt that within the region, there was a ‘creeping suspicion’ over the years that there should be ‘more action’ and ‘less talk’ on ways of addressing these matters,” he stressed.
?t the end of the day, Cabinet felt addressing those matters all of which impacted on national development, commitments to the poor and the disadvantaged made the inclusion in the agenda worthwhile and indeed quite relevant,” he stated.
He said Cabinet opined that the participation of the 34 Heads of State and their delegation should allow the many voices of the governments and people of the Americas to be heard and hopefully lead to an outcome that is sustainable and predicated on having durable results.
The three-day event organised by the Organisation of American States (OAS), is held under theme ‘Securing Our Citizens Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability’ and the much-anticipated meeting brings together Heads of State and government of the western hemisphere and is being attended by the highly popular United States President Barack Obama.
