RYAN Mohabir, 20, charged with the robbery under arms committed on businesswoman Deomattie Arjune last week Saturday, was remanded to prison at Reliance Court on Wednesday.
Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Persid upheld an objection by Police Inspector Donna Grant-Fraser, prosecuting, to refuse the defendant bail.
Mohabir, of Lot 101 Sheet Anchor, East Canje, also in Berbice, is alleged to have robbed the poultry vendor of G$1M and US$300 as well as cheques worth G$255,000, making a total loss to her of G$1,315,000.
The Prosecutor, who reported that none of the money was recovered, said, if granted pre-trial freedom, the defendant is likely to tamper with the witnesses, one of whom had positively identified him a fellow villager.
Before the case was postponed to April 28, the Court heard that Mohabir was one of two robbers who brandished a gun and a knife, before robbing the victim, discharging a round from the firearm and escaping on foot.
