DUBBED the battle of Port Mourant, the annual horse race meet lived up to all expectations as patrons saw Miss Republic of the Colin Elcock/Delmur Shipping Company Stable conquering all to win the coveted $340,000 in the feature B class event.

On the other hand, La Bayamosa took the three-year- old Derby while the Message delivered its message to its opponent by winning the F class race. According to pundits it was the best for the year so far with over $3M up for the taking and over 70 horses entered one could not ask for more.
The Three-year-old Derby had its fair share of excitement as the fierce competition continued. This event was as keenly anticipated as the B class race with horses such as Sweet Romance and La Bayamosa expecting to do battle.
But it was La Bayamosa which is known for it blistering finishes took early control to wheel off the $240,000 prize.
Coconut Boy, with jockey Daniel Flores, took second (place) and Sweet Romance, with the experienced Michael Semple on the mount, showed good resolve to hold on for third (show) in the 1400M race.
The H and Lower 1200M event was taken by Finishing Touch in a driving finish from Royal Champion as Perfect Drift settled for third. On the other hand, there was a reversal for the top two positions when Royal Champion took the crown from Finishing Touch in another nail-biting event to carry away $120,000 in a 1200 metre race.
Bounty Flyer flew away with the Unclassified Division 3 event and the $90,000 winning prize as it won from Foolish Pleasure and Clear Victory in third. The distance was also 1200M.
The champion jockey prize went to Krishna Singh ahead of Paul Delph of the Elcock Stables, However Colin Elcock took the Champion Owner and the champion trainer prizes compliments of Trophy Stall, in Bourda Market.
