CAVE HILL, Barbados (CMC) – Combined Campuses & Colleges condemned Barbados to their fourth straight defeat when they completed a five-wicket victory in their WICB regional four-day competition yesterday. Chasing a modest 137 for victory, the CCC reached their target about 45 minutes after the tea break, after they dismissed Barbados for 278 in their second innings on the final day of their 13th round match at the Three Ws Oval. West Indies all-rounder Ryan Hinds formalised the result, when he delivered the last of his eight no-balls to Kevin McClean. This was the CCC’s third victory for the season and they move to sixth in the seven-team table on 48 points – six points behind Barbados, who have now plunged to fifth in the standings, following defeats against Windward Islands, Jamaica, and Leeward Islands. In the final round, the CCC host Trinidad & Tobago in the final round at the Three Ws Oval, and Barbados travel to face Guyana at the National stadium. All-rounder Kevin Stoute led a rearguard action with 63 and Tino Best scored 51 to beef-up Barbados’ total, after they resumed from their overnight total of 167 for seven. Stoute reached his 50 from 116 balls, and Best needed just 86 deliveries for his 50, as they added 92 for the ninth wicket. But off-spinner Ryan Austin had Best caught at short leg, and left-arm spinner Anderson Sealy trapped Stoute lbw in the final half-hour before lunch to leave Barbados on 271 for nine at the interval. After lunch, Austin ended the Barbadians’ resistance, when he added the scalp of Shane Ramsay lbw for three. Sealy ended with three wickets for 93 runs from 19 overs, and Austin finished with three for 93 from 31.4 overs. The result was never in any doubt, once CCC opener Omar Phillips played a few rasping strokes and dominated an opening stand of 51 with Kyle Corbin. Before they achieved their target, the CCC lost Corbin for 18, Nekoli Parris for a duck, and Phillips for 42 – all to Hinds bowling his steady left-arm spin – to wobble to 80 for three at tea. After tea, Floyd Reifer, their captain, steadied the ship with 26 before he and Jamal Smith perished with victory well within sight.
Hinds finished with three for 43 from 15.4 overs.
