FOLLOWING their recent announcement of the women’s national squad, the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) has short-listed its top male players to commence training for the upcoming Caribbean Hockey Cup scheduled for June 22–29 in Kingston, Jamaica. According to a release, contrary to the inexperienced women’s team, Guyana sent a men’s team comprising of seasoned players mixed with newcomers to the inaugural Caribbean Cup held in Trinidad in 2007. While the men lost to eventual finalists Trinidad and Barbados, they defeated Jamaica to take the Bronze medals. This success followed on the heels of their previous outing to the Alba Games in Venezuela earlier in the year where Guyana copped the silver medal, losing only to gold medallists Cuba in the tournament. National coach of this successful team, Timothy McIntosh, is unfortunately no longer available to perform this task due to personal commitments and the team will commence training under the guidance of Damon Woodroffe and Ivor Thompson, who both were part of the 2007 contingent and are likely to steer the team along the successful path laid out by McIntosh. The players called for training leading up to the championship are: Timothy McIntosh, Azad DeAbreu, Robert Fernandes, Jerazeno Bell, Alexs Gouveia, Devin Munroe, Marvin Dannett, Shane Samuels, Rene Edwards, Robert France, Randy Hope, Shaquille Assanah, Jason Hoyte, Dwight Sullivan, Ascofu Simon, Chris Low-Koan, Aderemi Simon, Tony Cole, John Abrams, Jason Dosantos, Stephen Fernandes, Orland Semple, Damon Woodruff, Alan Fernandes, Gregory Garroway, Devin Hooper, Kevin Spencer, Dwayne Scott, Raphael DeGroot, Peter DeGroot, Stuart Gonsalves, Chris Xavier, Andrew Xavier, Philip Xavier, Shaka Gill, Leonard George, Michael Xavier, Andy Sampson, Jermaine Murray and Deon Carew.
