Two more testify at Alphonso attempted murder PI

THE Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into an attempted murder charge against former New Amsterdam Mayor Errol Alphonso resumed before Magistrate Geeta Chandan Edmond Persid on Tuesday.

Two Police witnesses, Detective Sergeant Charles Browne and Constable Adrian Craig testified at New Amsterdam Court, in Berbice.

Craig was the driver of Police vehicle PJJ 9971 in which the victims were when the shooting incident took place and he, too, is expected to return to Court on March 3, for cross-examination by Defence Counsel Nigel Hughes.

Alphonso, of Penitentiary Walk, New Amsterdam, is alleged to have shot Aubrey Brandt and Sherwin Vyphuis on September 2, 2008, in the same street.

The accused is on $500,000 bail.
The virtual complainants were injured while being escorted by Police who had taken them into custody.

Brandt was being investigated in connection with a break and enter report while Vyphuis was a patient who allegedly escaped from the National Psychiatric Hospital.
