In unity of purpose we can never be defeated– Minister Ali

During the feature address to a crowd gathered Sunday night to count down the nation’s 39th Republic anniversary at the Regional Democratic Council office, Region Three, Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali, said that Guyanese have continued the task of nation building despite the many challenges meted out by a global financial meltdown.

While reflecting on the government’s determination to safeguard the nation against the global crisis of unstable oil prices and severe food insecurities which occurred over past year, Minister Ali praised all Guyanese for their patience and endurance in pushing forward for opportunities to keep the wheels of industry alive.

Minister Ali said that Guyanese continue to consolidate themselves in strengthening their zeal for opportunities to build a nation that is strong, united and sustainable.

He said these opportunities will come from ‘a budget that continues to grow in social spending, geared at expanding and improving our people’s access to health, education, housing and water.’

The Minister took the opportunity to share the Administration’s vision for sustainable development, and he charged the gathering to rekindle the spirit of unity and togetherness which had won independence from colonial rule and was further reinstated when Guyana became a Republic in 1970.

“This development,” he said, “will charter the way for future generations without sacrificing the economic worth of the forest.”

Guyana is pushing for compensation for preserving its rainforests in the battle against global warming through deforestation and environmental degradation.

In his remarks preceding the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead, Minister Ali charged the members of the Disciplined Forces on parade “not to waiver in their task but strive everyday to be better examples.”

Regional Chairman, Julius Faerber, commented on the significance of the activity. There were also cultural presentations from students of nearby schools. (GINA)
