Stan Gouveia granted bail in Fidelity embezzlement case

TELEVISION and radio personality Stan Gouveia, 34, of Lot 416 Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, has been charged with fraudulent embezzlement.

He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday and pleaded not guilty to having, between October 1 and December 31, 2008, being a clerk or servant of Commodity Store, fraudulently embezzled $56,000.

Defence Counsel Paul Fung-a-Fat, in a successful bail application, said Gouveia is also the Executive Promoter of Fidelity Inc and has signed a document to settle the matter which involves $134,000.

The lawyer explained that Commodity Store is a subsidiary for Fidelity, to which Gouveia owes the money.

Gouveia was ordered to post $70,000 surety until March 31.
