IT is unfortunate that there seems to be some miscommunication with regards to the hosting of the Allison Hinds Concert at the National Park on February 21. While Allison Hinds is a great Caribbean artiste, the hosting of a concert featuring her at the National Park is just unheard of.

Mashramani is an annual national event which culminates with the float parade in the National Park. The programme of events is out in advance. The National Mashramani Secretariat has time and again called on promoters to inform them early of events they may want to host during the season.

This clash could only be blamed on the promoters and sponsors. What is more ridiculous is that the Guyanese promoters seemed unaware of the activities scheduled for Mash.

This is embarrassing and a slap in the face of local artistes who use this time to promote their music.

We all admire the fame and performances by xforeignx artistes but the one time in the year when the focus should be on local talent, a top local promoter and sponsors choose to bring a foreign artiste.

It is time that Guyanese begin to stand up for their own. They should speak with their dollars so that Guyanese artistes could once again feel a sense of self respect.
