Unlike Italy, a state of emergency was not declared here

AS I was browsing the internet, I came across a most interesting development. I noticed that countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Indonesia have experienced a series of earthquakes. The earthquake level that was experienced in Indonesia far surpassed that of previous periods.

This is as a direct impact of climate change around the world. Looking at the statistics and comparing it with what we are experiencing here, is nothing compared to what those and many other countries are facing. Many homes and lives were lost.

While we may be a Third World country, we have been able to adequately deal with drainage and irrigation issues around the country. Lately Trinidad and Tobago was affected by floods like never before.

Guyanese did not have a state of emergency declared as in the case of Italy. In the United States, Oregon is under water since a river broke its banks!

Is this because we in Guyana are prepared for climate change?
