Man stabbed to death over old grievance

A 33-year-old man was, on Saturday, May 9, 2020, stabbed to death at Gobin Dam, Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) by another man, over an argument about a stolen cellphone.

Dead is Marlon Peters, 33, of Lot 46 Q Gobin Dam, Friendship, EBD.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 21:45hours at Gobin Dam, Friendship, East Bank Demerara. It is alleged that Peters was killed by a man identified as Joshua Oneil called ‘Joshi’, 27, also a resident of Gobin Dam.
An eyewitness had told the police that Oneil was seen standing by a shop at Gobin Dam, Friendship

The eyewitness further recalled that Peters was seen walking home when Oneil approached and confronted him about a cellular phone that was stolen sometime back, while they were in the interior.
An argument ensued, but Peters walked away and continued on his journey home.

Oneil tackled Peters from behind and stabbed him several times with a knife.
Peters was stabbed to the right upper abdomen and to the right upper back. He fell and Oneil made good his escape into the nearby bush.

Peters was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead.
His body is at Lyken Funeral Home awaiting post mortem.

The police made checks in the area for CCTV cameras but none was seen.
A black-handle kitchen knife, without blood stains, was found nearby.
Investigation is ongoing.
